I'm in search of a “diamond in the rough” type of opportunity and I'm hoping I can reach as many people as possible to hopefully find something!
In a nutshell - I'm trying to find a minimal financial impact way to move/ find a permanent home that i can build to be accessible to my daughters needs.
My amazing daughter Mariah was hit by a car as a teenager and paralyzed from the waist down. Up until about almost a year into covid things were doing great, her father and I worked together to make sure she has the best life possible and can live at home. Unfortunately covid had a huge impact on both of our careers, and where we lived and well financially. That meant moving our daughter states without a choice into rentals that are minimally accessible for someone wheelchair bound and it's no way to live, let alone impending leases that may or may not be renewed. Plus the huge financial strain of paying for medical supplies, equipment and things to make our daughter's life as easy as possible in a minimally wheelchair accessible home and switching her insurances and states.
Long story short, im trying to fix that any way humanly possible but having to move makes that difficult in the rinse and repeat process of finding a rental (and the months it takes, the issues if we are not in the area as we try to find places the weather is more suitable for her). Its hard to get ahead when you are trying to plan your next move just in case a lease can't be renewed.
What Im looking for: Im not looking for a handout lets just get that out of the way. Im hoping to find someone who would be willing to work with myself and my daughters father in securing a permanent home that we can work on to make fully accessible for our daughter, and finally get ahead financially by not having to worry about moving our daughter, all her medical equipment and supplies etc every other year or so and give us the opportunity to put down roots in a community. Currently we are in Arizona however to continue to live here we would need to find something in or near Flagstaff to be suitable enough for our daughters medical and climate needs.
We are fully open to any idea or opportunity but we have also come up with the following with research and our own careers, education and experience. We come with excellent references both personal and professional and a 6 figure income. The home would generally be lived in by our daughter, and one of her parents or brother that work from home and help with caregiving/nursing she needs when her regular caregiver/nursing team isn't available. .
Some examples:
A “fixer upper” home that is livable that we can put a small down payment on, rent to own/Owner carry/finance while we also fix/update and make accessible. We could work with a 1 bedroom home if need be as long as we can add to it or add possibly a ADU , all depends on the layout and how large of a lot the home is on, as we would like the opportunity to be able to make the outside of the home wheelchair accessible as well as the inside.
Have a small home and a lot of land with it? Lets talk, we both have extensive backgrounds that could be beneficial in making an income opportunity for the both of us while we make payments to purchase the home.
Rural location? That's ok! As long as we are within an hour of a hospital/doctors, and we can have internet to work at home, we have a wheelchair van, will travel! Our daughter actually loves outdoors, nature and rural settings although we would consider any suitable location and opportunity. We understand that more rural locations can be more difficult to sell and welcome the opportunity to become a part of a rural community or small town as much as any other place.
Mobile homes are OK too, we can work with most layouts even temporarily while we work on remodeling what's needed. While ideally we would prefer it come with land (especially because we would likely need a large ramp and patio/porch built). We do welcome any opportunities within an established mobile home park.
As far as moving time frame goes, we are open anytime within the next year (preferably less) but keep in mind due to our daughter's medical needs we need to drive her wherever we relocate to, and weather (aka snow) can delay our relocation due to safety reasons.
We of course welcome any positive ideas or suggestions. If we are unable to find a suitable arrangement in our near Flagstaff we will sadly be forced to look at relocations out of state which also is harder on our daughter physically/medically and we are hoping to try and avoid that.
Thank you for taking the time reading this and we truly hope this reaches someone who can work with us!, any questions feel free to email us using the link craigslist has provided as it wouldn't allow me to put our personal email
